 enric's story

Rwandan born Eric Nshimiyumuremy lost his father in the Genocide, and his mother from disease. But God had his eye on him. At age nine, Eric began to wander the streets in search of food and shelter earning pennies to buy food by carrying luggage for people. He often went hungry for days sometimes sleeping in cardboard boxes at night.

After several years he began hanging around nightclubs, running errands for patrons. In these places Eric discovered his love and passion for music. However, this new passion came with a severe price, beatings and abuse from drunk patrons.

On a Saturday night in 2000, Eric was severely beaten. That night as he lay awake in pain, he heard a voice telling him not to return to the nightclubs. The next Sunday morning he wandered into a church for the first time. In that church, he found his passion again-music! This music came without the heavy price, and the people treated him well. Eric's heart began to feel warmth for the first time in many years. He gave his heart to God and joined the children's choir.

Local villagers began to recognize Eric's musical gift, and in 2002 a church member asked him to help teach children to sing at a summer camp. There he met Serena Morones from Portland Oregon who recognized God's calling in his life and offered to help him.

As a newly sponsored student through Africa New Life Ministries, Eric began to flourish from the benefit education. Eric also began making many new friends with people who deeply cared for him.

Today at the age of 21, Eric now known as Enric has composed over 60 songs.  He won a national song-writing competition in Rwanda in 2004 and now has his songs played on Rwandan radio.  Enric's dream is to travel around the world and sing to people about God's power to save them.  Enric's music may be purchased on itunes, or by emailing info@enricsifa.com
