Hindurwa, which means “be changed”, is a music group of Rwandan students who sing and speak of how God has changed their lives by giving them hope in what seemed to be a hopeless situation.
Much of the transformation in their lives took place through Africa New Life Ministries, an organization that offers hope to the people of Rwanda by providing education, food, clothing and spiritual training in the name of Jesus Christ. (More information about ANLM can be found online at http://www.anlm.org/.) Each of the Hindurwa members has been transformed by God through acceptance of Jesus Christ as our Lord and savior. Sponsorship through ANLM enabled them to return to school after years of being unable to attend due to lack of finances.
Hindurwa started in 2004 when Eric Nshimiyumuremyi, Brian Bizimungu, Robert Mugabe and Emma Twebaze began spreading the good news of God's love to the youth of Rwanda through their music. In 2006 and 2007, ANLM brought them to the United States, enabling them to share their music and personal stories to thousands of people. Another tour took place in 2008, with a slight change in band members: Robert Mugabe remained in Rwanda, while Moses Mbona and Jean Claude Nshimiyimana joined the tour.
In 2008, Eric Nshimiyumuremyi, who had led the group since 2006, was offered a scholarship to study in the US and is now working independently. Brian filled this role as band leader after Eric stepped down.
Since their return to Rwanda after the 2008 US tour, Hindurwa has been focused on school, music recording and local ministry. The band is performing many new songs at local concerts and is working on producing a new album. This new album, currently being recorded at a studio in Kigali, will feature their most recent songs.
Hindurwa is now comprised of the following individuals:
Brian Bizimungu - lead singer
Emma Twebaze - keyboard and vocals
Moses Mbona - vocals
Jean Claude Nshimiyimana - vocals
Robert Mugabe - vocals
